What should be a cancer patient's DIET?

A cancer patient is usually found to be lacking in nutrients without realising that good nutrition is crucial to keep the body going. In designing an appropriate diet for both the illness and its treatments, place consideration on food tolerance and usage of nutrients. Studies showed that with right mix of foods, many cancer patients can achieve desirable results to suffer lesser or even recover gradually.

At different stage and type of cancer, the requirement of nutrients varies for individuals. However, it is found that in all cases, eating well during treatment is important to -

+ Feel better
+ Keep up the strength and energy level
+ Maintain the weight and body’s reserve of essential nutrients
+ Better tolerate treatment-related side effects to lower the risk of infection
+ Heal and recover faster

Diet to consider

(1)  If a cancer patient is at the terminal stage with days numbered, eating wisely is no longer relevant.

(2)  As for patients in the early stages, it is advisable to reduce the intake of unhealthy foods such as junk foods, processed refined foods, saturated fats, salt, sugar or white flour. Also leave out acidic foods such as animal meat, dairy products, alcohol and caffeine till much improvement is seen.

The top cancer-causing foods to avoid-

Hot dogs. As they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you cannot live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

*  Equally high in the same sodium nitrates found in bacon and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

*  Both doughnuts and french fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures produces cancer-causing acrylamides.

Chips, crackers and cookies are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

A healthy diet incorporates a variety of foods to avail the body a wide array of nutrients much needed to combat cancer. It should comprise protein, carbohydrates, fat, water, vitamins and minerals.

Proteins

Body cells are made of amino acids, derived from protein. Thus, protein is essential for growth, to repair tissue and keep our immune system healthy. Without sufficient protein, the muscles are broken down to provide the fuel energy. This delays the recovery process and increases the vulnerability to infection. As such, cancer patients need more protein than normal, especially after surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Good protein can be derived from fish, poultry, lean red meat, eggs, low-fat dairy products, nuts, dried beans, peas lentils and soy foods. Incidentally, many types of nuts, beans and meat contain an important anti-cancer mineral -selenium.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are energy giver needed for physical activity and proper bodily functioning.

Good sources of carbohydrates are fruits, vegetables and whole grains which incidentally supply plenty of vitamins, minerals, fibre and phytonutrients required at the cellular level.

Fats

Do not ignore fats as it plays an important role in nutrition too. Fats and oils are made of fatty acids that provide energy to the body. In fact, the body breaks down fats and uses it to store energy, insulate body tissues and transport some types of vitamins through the blood.

Not all fats are equal. Good ones such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats have positive effects on the heart and cholesterol level whilst saturated fats and trans-fats are considered bad. Monounsaturated fats are found mainly in vegetable oils including olive, canola and peanut oils. Polyunsaturated fats are found mainly in seafood and vegetable oils like safflower, sunflower, corn and flaxseed.

(However, note that high consumption of polyunsaturated fats causes low cholesterol levels, leading to an increased risk of dying from cancer)

Water

Water is necessary for normal body functioning, particularly the heart and digestive system. It also provides moisture to our lung tissue to facilitate oxygen intake and carbon dioxide excretion. Thus it plays a crucial role in helping the body to purge the excess metabolic waste so that our cells can be reactivated.

Pure fruit juices are preferred over bottled fruit juices that are loaded with fructose or sucrose to improve the taste, even though they may contain many nutrients. A sudden rush of sugar triggers the insulin response, making one tired as the extra calories are converted into fats if not expended.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals enable our bodies to work properly. The critical biochemical functions performed by them are found to take place on a molecular versus a cellular level. Vitamins are organic substances made by plants or animals whereas minerals are inorganic elements extract from the soil and water, and are absorbed by plants or eaten by animals.

Look for those brightly colored fruits and vegetables loaded with phytochemicals. They may act as antioxidants (nutrient protectors) or prevent carcinogens (cancer causing agents) from forming.

The powerful antioxidants include Vitamin A, C, E, beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein. Minerals such as selenium and germanium are clinically tested to handle cancer well. Onions, pearl barley, ginger and garlic are known to contain such anti-cancer properties.

Eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and spinach. Also add on yellow and deep-orange vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, pumpkin, squash and yam. As for fruits, apples, berries, Brazil nuts, cherries, grapes, oranges and plum are good choices.

Methods of preparation

+ Cooking should be done simply by steaming or little oil used.
+ Microwave ovens should be avoided due to the potential low-level radiation leakage.
+ The best method of eating is raw. For example cancer patients who used fresh raw cabbage and carrot juice reported excellent results.

Other comments

If we can keep our bodies healthy at all times and avoid cancer-causing agents, the chance of getting cancer is slim. For cancer patients, dietary wellness is imperative to maintain optimum health for the best fighting chance to successfully conquer cancer.

Lung Cancer (with testimony)

According to the Singapore Cancer Registry, lung cancer is the second most frequent cancer in men (after colon cancer) and the third most common type of cancer in women (after breast and colon cancers). We tend to associate lung cancer with smokers as cigarette smoking increases the chance of contracting lung cancer by 10 to 15 times higher than a non-smoker.

Types

Lung cancer can be divided into 2 main types:  small cell and non-small cell.  Virtually all smokers and ex-smokers have the small cells that are considered aggressive in nature and tend to metastasize and spread rapidly to other parts of the body. With much conscious efforts put in to discourage smoking, there is a noticeable drop in such cancer cases.

On the contrary, is alarming to hear that the number of lung cancer patients who are non-smokers is rising.  Many women are caught unexpectedly by this disease (suspect to be smoke inhaled from cooking) since there are no early symptoms, making the all-round survival rate relatively low.

Causes

Associated risk factors include:

-  marijuana use,
-  exposure to secondary smoke,
-  exposure to pollution, asbestos, nickel, chromates or radioactive materials,
-  alcohol consumption,
-  chronic bronchitis,
-  history of tuberculosis,
-  lung scarring from pneumonia and
-  deficiency in Vitamin A.

Symptoms

The symptoms of both types are quite similar.

-  persistent cough (can be with blood-stained sputum), chest pain, shortness of breath, wheezing, hoarseness,
-  unintended weight loss,
-  loss of appetite,
-  recurring pneumonia,
-  fever for unknown reason.

If any of the symptoms do not go away after a couple of days, a biopsy may need to be performed.  If tested positive, treatment typically involved surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy will be recommended according to the severity and stage of development.

Diagnosis

+  Sad to say that only 20% of non-small lung cancer is detected at early stages of I and II where surgery is still possible to remove the tumor along with part of the normal lung.  In this group, only half are cured and the half suffer relapse and eventually die.
+  About 1/3 of lung cancer patients are diagnosed with stage III and are treated with radiotherapy/chemotherapy to increase the chance of long-term survival.
+  About half of the patients discovered too late and at stage IV, chemotherapy has to be applied to control the spread of the disease, to prolong survival as well as manage and prevent symptoms and/or complications.

As this is an incurable disease, the chance of survival is at best only 20% for up to 2 years.

What to do?

A diet high in fruits and vegetables may help to improve the condition. Tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms and  soybeans contain potent antioxidants that may have inhibiting effect on the growth of lung cancer cells.

Given the high fatality rate due to late diagnosis in most cases and poor results with current available treatments, it pays to be more vigilant about the common symptoms and seek medical advice as early as possible.

VIVA corner

Vivashield is a powerful 4-1 antioxidants that can offer protection against this deadly disease.  Vitamin A, C, E and selenium, when taken together should be able to decrease risk of lung cancer by lowering damaging effect of free radicals.

VIVA Oxypower contains CoQ10 important for lung cancer to increase oxygen intake into the air sacs so that the surviving cells do not perish.

VIVA Germanium stimulates the T cells to produce gamma interferon and boosts the function of macrophages and natural killer cells to combat cancer.

VIVA Selguard provides selenium that has been proven to reduce the incidence of lung cancer, and can achieve better result with chemotherapy effect.  It helps to rid the lungs of harmful free radicals and apoptosis of cancer cells.

Testimony

It was an April Fool joke this year as we received a call that our uncle was admitted to Intensive Care Unit of a Singapore public hospital for lung cancer Stage 4. He developed pneumonia and the chest was severely bloated. Doctor warned that it was terminal and could lead to complications. No drug was available to treat his critical condition. Family was expecting the worst and rushed to prepare the necessary arrangement if he were to pass out anytime.

At this time I consulted my VIVA friend and decided to fight the last battle. He explained that we need to get VIVA GERMANIUM known to purge toxins, VIVA SELGUARD to protect the good cells, VIVA OMEGA 3 to drain out excessive fluids and VIVA GREEN BARLEY to improve blood circulation.

Miracle really happened! Bags of urine flowing through the tube showed murkiness that paled off each time these supplements were administered.

By the 4th day he was transferred to the normal ward. We continued to feed him the above and he got better each day. After 1.5 mths he was able to be discharged from the hospital and returned home like a normal person (not a weak patient just recovering from a disaster)

Thanks to VIVA for the wonderful products.

Our comments:

Lung cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat given the organ’s structure and the inter-play functions with other parts of the body. The success rate is not encouraging in the medical world.  As this case is ruled ‘hopeless’, we were allowed to test out with some supplements.

Green Barley regulates body’s PH to reduce acidity as harmful bacteria thrive well in an acidic environment. By strengthening detoxification process and protecting cells from free radical damage, risk from cancer can be better controlled.

Omega 3 is documented to have the ability of enhancing the immune system, has anti-inflammatory properties and improve the function of white blood cell. It is commonly known as a blood cleansing agent.

Selguard is an important part of the human antioxidant enzyme. It is clinically proven to help reduces the incidence of cancer by the process ’apoptosis’ and protects the normal cells.

Germanium is a trace element that can be found in animals and plants.  By means of its chemical characteristics, it is able to fight off free radicals, enhance the oxygen supply to our cells, relieve pain and neutralise heavy metal intoxication and strengthen our immune system. A number of clinical studies have proven that organic germanium stimulates the body’s T-helper cells to produce gammna interferon, and at the same time boosts the functions of macrophages and natural killer cells to combat cancer. It delivers the same result as administering chemo drugs in a safe way.
Besides the above four products, best if can add on:

VIVA Oxypower, a powerful antioxidant that can help to fight free radicals.  The ingredients therein, Coenzyme Q, Vit A,C,E and germanium help the body to utliise oxygen quickly and effectively, especially on the damaged cells.

VIVA FLORAGUARD is an enhanced formula that provides 10 billion CFU per serving of five strains of friendly bacteria that can act against carcinogens to prevent tumor and establishes a protective layer against pathogenic infection.  It produces or preserve beneficial substances and essential nutrients to stabilise the body’s pH.

VIVA DAILYGUARD, a premium supplementation source of multivitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and antioxidants to replenish depleting nutrients from the ravaging of cancer cells.  Reconstruction of the immune system is vital to prevent a revisit of the deadly disease.

VIVASHIELD, a unique formulation of Vitamin A, C, E and Selenium can help to prevent further radical cell damage and prevent progression of cancer.

A Doc’s ADVICE for CANCER patients

Before you consider chemotherapy treatment, listen to a doc’s experience…

By Dr Tom Wu

The below is absolutely 100% true and as a doctor I have been telling people this for 15 years now. No one wants to listen. Folks need to wake up. Cancer treatment is about making money. It is a 120 billion dollar a year industry in the United States alone and estimated to be a 600 billion dollar a year industry worldwide.

A successful cancer case according to the American Cancer Society and the American College of Oncology and Hematology means that the person survives for 5 years. Both the American Cancer Society and the American College of Oncology and Hematology admit that a person is likely to survive cancer for 7 to 10 years even if they do absolutely NOTHING. Of course, only the doctors get those magazines – not you, the cancer patient.

Alternative medicine’s track record of curing cancer is 10 times higher than that of conventional medicine. Note that I say CURE.

Remember another thing.

A TUMOR is just a symptom. It is not the cause of cancer.

Science is cause and effect. Remove the cause and the effect disappears.

I am in my third battle with cancer right now. I have not done any chemotherapy or radiation or surgery for any of my bouts with cancer. I survived leukemia, I survived Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and now I have Glioblastoma which is supposedly an incurable form of brain cancer. I was given two months to live 5 months ago.

I have been using Chinese herbs, high doses of vitamin C, acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy and nutritional changes. Yes, at first it got worse. It had metastasized to my lymph nodes, my lungs and my bones. As of this week, I am happy to say that there is no evidence now of any cancer in my lymph system or my bones. I had 6 tumors in my lungs, now there are only two. The tumors in my brain have shrunken tremendously. I never did any of their chemo, radiation or surgery.

Here is a very interesting statistic that you can only have access to by being a doctor. Every year more than 1,000 doctors oncologists (cancer doctors) are diagnosed with cancer. Less than 10% of them choose to do the treatment that they have been giving to their patients. Sort of like the fact that less than 25% of all pediatricians vaccinate their own children because of the fact that the risk of sudden death or serious side effects from the vaccination is higher than the risk of catching the disease one is being vaccinated for. This is not bullshit people – it is truth.

Medicine is about money, not about your health and the system traps people, especially the elderly, disabled and poor into a deadly treatment regime that puts them in an early grave. Meanwhile, all the jet set billionaires are flying off to Europe and paying big bucks for alternative treatments and getting cured.

Does alternative medicine work all the time? No. Of course not. Nothing works all the time. But there is a reason for that. You don’t die until it’s your time to die. Nothing can make you live longer than that time.

However quality of life comes into play. Those cancer patients who use alternative therapies for their cancer, yet still die from the illness, suffer a much higher quality of life. They die able to spend time with their families and even recognize their family members. They don’t become emaciated like those who do chemotherapy or radiation do and rarely is a person who goes under the treatment of chemotherapy able to recognize anyone for the last few days of their lives

Their bodies become ravaged to the point that you can’t even recognize them either. They suffer at a much higher rate and they have one let down after another as doctors tell them – it’s looking good, only to tell them on the next visit it’s looking worse, you need more chemo and radiation.

What is criminal about this is that YOUR DOCTORS KNOW THIS SHIT.

I took an oath as a physician. I have always followed it. That has certainly not made me successful financially as a doctor because I have consistently refused to go along with conventional medicine’s bullshit.

Read the below carefully. It may indeed make a difference in your life.

Dr. Tom Wu’s breakthroughs with Cancer & Diabetes have earned him the “Remarkable Contribution Award” from the American Cancer Society and the “World Famous Doctor Award” from The United Nations.

At the age of 30, Chinese doctor Tom Wu was diagnosed with advanced stages of lung cancer, and was told he had only a few months to live. Not only has he survived, but the doctor has maintained a healthy life. The cancer is all gone, and he said he’s never caught a cold or other illness for 40 years. He has stopped going for blood tests.

The secrets of how he won the fight against lung cancer and maintains a healthy body are revealed in his first book, Dr Wu’s Principle of Natural Cures.

Dr Wu’s principle is to strengthen the immune system, and avoid medication as much as possible. In his book, he offers the following guidelines to good health:

Here is the summary :
  1. Have at least three bowel movements a day.
  2. Drink at least three glasses of fruit or vegetable smoothies each day.
  3. Sunbathe 30 minutes daily.
  4. Exercise 30 minutes a day.
  5. Shower with hot, then cold water.
  6. Drink a lot of water, in the correct way.
  7. Eat according to your blood type.
  8. Eat according to your biological clock.

Cancer Update

You may have read that this Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins is not actually from the Authority but I feel still worth a look. I have incorporated some medical views which are quite agreeable to original text. (see highlighted notes in brackets)

1. Every person has some cancer cells in the body. They do not show up in the standard tests till multiplied to a few billions. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

(Cancer tumors do not show up in diagnostic tests if they are shrunk into micro tumors in your body and can lie dormant for many years before full remission.)

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

(Everyone has cancer cells present at times in our body.  Cancer does not develop overnite but gradually over a period of many years.  Driven by the increase in life expectancy, the incidence of lifestyle-related cancers is picking up tremendously to become a trend in our modern society.)

3 When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

(Cancer cells simply cannot grow in an environment that is rich in plant-based nutrients and based on healthy, natural living. Even if a spoilt cell tried to mutate and become cancerous on its own, it cannot achieve long-term success in replicating inside your body being surrounded by healthy cells and bathed in anti-cancer nutrients carried to it each day in your blood. Failing to receive adequately the right food, it will shrivel up and actually lose their blood supply before dying off. Of course, if you eat junk food, it is happily fed the right food.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

(Research has showed that by increasing intake of a balanced diet and supplement with proper nutrients can inhibit the growth of cancerous cells.  For instance, those who are vitamin D deficient for about 20 years can supplement it and see a drastic improvement of 77% of all cancers and more with nutrients like selenium, Omega3 and Vitamin C.)

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

(Daily supplements are widely used by cancer patients to fight the cancer vigorously or make them feel better.  There are studies which showed that sufficient nutrition could help patients by improving survival rates and reducing post-operative complications by 80%)

                                            A HEALTHY CELL

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

(Surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy may weaken a cancer patient's body physiology system and cause some side effects and feeling of discomfort.  The most common problems are poor appetite, constipation, anemia, malnutrition, weight loss, mood swings and low immunity.)

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

(Though we recognise the few cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation or surgery do help to reduce the tumor size in the initial stage, but prolonged use of such treatments will also destroy rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc and can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. At this point in time, the body urgently requires you to pump in large doses of nutrients to improve and strengthen your stamina.)

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

*CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and just as harmful. Hence, to support cancer cell division and growth, simply consume lots of sugar especially refined sugar.

ALL DIET CARBONATED DRINKS CONTAIN ASPARTAME AND ARE POISONOUS.

A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water - best to drink purified water or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat, especially pork, remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

(In essence, there is an urgent need to create an internal biological environment in which cancer tumors just cannot grow at all. Ideally, you should switch to a more alkaline diet that is rich in vegetables and green foods rather than acidic substances such as sugar, fried foods, meat and caffeine.)

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (eg. anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E and selenium are known to cause apoptosis (programmed cell death), the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level.

(GERMANIUM is one of the oxygen-rich substance that can be used as to target and detect the cancer cells in the body and with the high oxygen level, can help to inhibit their growth.)

What to avoid -

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

This especially applies to heating fat foods in plastic wrap. The combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

OUR COMMENTS

Combining a positive attitude, some regular exercise, good sleep, stress reduction habits and strict avoidance of cancer-causing foods and chemicals, you are on your way to block virtually all tumor growth in your body.

Instead of growing cancer tumors, you can start growing healthy cells that will quickly overpower any diseased cells!

Most FATAL - Pancreatic cancer

The pancreas is a 6-inch long organ located behind and below the stomach. It is spongy and shaped somewhat like a fish, extended horizontally across the abdomen. The head of the pancreas is on the right side of the abdomen where the stomach is attached to the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum). The tail of the pancreas extends to the left side of the abdomen next to the spleen.

Over 95% of the pancreas is made up of exocrine glands and ducts which produce pancreatic juices or enzymes to be released into the intestines to aid in digesting fat, proteins and carbohydrates. The enzymes can build up due to high alcohol intake, gallstones, hepatitis A or certain drugs that can cause inflammation by attacking the gland itself.

The remaining 5% comprises endocrine cells arranged in small clusters called islets of Langerhans, which release insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream. Both hormones are responsible for managing levels of sugar in the blood, failing which diabetes develops. For this reason, chronic sufferers are at risk of glucose intolerance (diabetes) and digestive ailments.

What is pancreatic cancer?

Chronic pancreatitis is a condition whereby the inflammation has caused irreversible changes in the structure of the gallbladder tissue. This is usually developed after long term alcohol abuse. Other possibilities include being over 60 yo, a smoker, diabetic, male, gene factor, cancer, high fat diet, exposure to certain toxic chemicals.

Recent studies found it takes about 20 years for a person to grow a cancer tumor and see it spread to the point where their doctor will diagnose them with pancreatic cancer.

• It takes 11.7 years for one mutation in a pancreas cell to grow into a "mature" pancreatic tumor (which might show up on a medical scan).

Digestive enzymes building up inside the pancreas can mount attack and cause inflammation. It can be so serious to affect the gallbladder as well. Once the healthy cells are damaged, they become abnormal and continue dividing and form lumps or masses of tissue called tumors. Tumors can interfere with the normal functioning of the organ. If a tumor stays in one spot and demonstrates limited growth, it is generally considered safe or benign.

• It takes another 6.8 years for the pancreatic tumor to spread and cause tumors to appear in other organs of the body.

A tumor becomes malignant or dangerous when the cancer cells migrate to other parts of the body through the blood or lymphatic system. Upon successful growth, invasion and destruction of other healthy tissues, it is said to have metastasized. This is an advance stage and highly incurable. In pancreatic cancer, these cells are frequently located in the head of the gland.

Classification

Pancreatic cancer is categorized depending on whether it affects the exocrine or endocrine functions of the pancreas. There is an important distinction between the two broad types of pancreatic cancer because they have different risk factors, causes, symptoms, diagnostic tests, treatments and prognoses.

Tumors that affect the exocrine functions are the most common type of pancreatic cancer with 95% of reported cases diagnosed as malignant.

As for rare incidents of tumors affecting the endocrine functions of the pancreas, there is usually no disruption in the production of hormones as they are benign. Exceptional malignant occurrences are possible only in non-functioning tumors.

Causes

The exact cause is unknown, but there are several identified risk factors.

+ Diets and Habits

- Pancreatic cancers are more likely to exist in men than in women, especially amongst the smokers. Smoking cigarettes increases one's risk of pancreatic cancer by a factor of 2 or 3. Second hand smokers share the same fate.

- Obese individuals and those who do not exercise are more prone to develop pancreatic cancer.

- Those who eat diets low in vegetables and fruits and high in animal fat and red meat are more likely to be diagnosed with the disease.

- Researchers who followed more than 60000 participants for 14 years in the Singapore Chinese Health Study found that those who drank 2 or more soft drinks a week had an 87% higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer. This study was published last Feb in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarker & Prevention.

On commercial basis, sugars are added to enhance taste. We are familiar with many products loaded with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) as it is cheaply available to use as a flavoring ingredient.  HFCS is no different from sucrose (table sugar) with both having a 50-50 combination of fructose and glucose. Another example is fruit juice concentrates and fruit canned foods where fructose is used as 'healthy sweetener'. It is estimated that between 1970 and 1990, consumption of high-fructose corn syrup rose 1,000%, according to the cancer researchers.

The Nobel Prize winner Dr Otto Warburg explained that malignant tumour cells utilise glucose as fuel like normal cells. When much glucose is being redirected to these abnormal cells, large amount of lactic acid is produced through this fermentation process. Up to a point where the liver is unable to neutralise the acid, the blood becomes acidic and cancer sufferers experience fatigue. A lost of appetite leads to undernourishment and body wasting with deteriorating health as immune system is affected.

His findings confirmed that pancreatic tumour cells can use fructose to divide and proliferate, speeding up the growth and spread of the cancer. Health experts also found out that fructose can drive up uric acid level as part of its normal metabolic pathways, causing diseases like hypertension, diabetes and kidney failure.

- Long-term heavy alcohol consumption is also considered a risk factor for pancreatic cancer. In fact, 80% of acute pancreatitis is attributed to drinking or gallstones.

+ Age factor

Most cases occur after 60 years of age, this cancer is rare under age 40. Reason being that there is an increase in the number of possible cancer-causing mutations in our DNA.

+ Hereditary factor

Cancer can be the result of a genetic predisposition that is inherited from family members. It is possible to be born with certain genetic mutations or a fault in a gene that makes one statistically more likely to develop cancer later in life. About 10% of pancreatic cancers are though to be caused by inherited gene mutations. Genetic syndromes that are associated with pancreatic cancer include hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, melanoma, pancreatitis and colorectal cancer.

+ Carcinogens

Carcinogens are directly responsible for damaging DNA, promoting or aiding cancer, including pancreatic cancer. We are easily exposed to this substance in our foods, certain pesticides, dyes and chemicals. During this process, free radicals are formed that try to steal electrons from other molecules in our body. These free radicals damage cells, affecting their ability to function normally, and the result can be cancerous growths.

There are also data suggesting that prolonged exposure to petroleum chemicals may increase the risk.

+ Medical factors

There are several other diseases that have been associated with an increased risk of cancer of the pancreas. These include cirrhosis or scarring of the liver, helicobacter pylori infection (infection of the stomach with the ulcer-causing bacteria H. pylori), diabetes mellitus, chronic pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), and gingivitis or periodontal disease.

Symptoms

Cancer symptoms are quite varied and depend on where the cancer is located, where it has spread, and how big the tumor is. Pancreatic cancer is often called a "silent" disease because it rarely shows early symptoms and presents non-specific in the early stages of tumor development. Tumors of the pancreas cancers are usually too small to cause symptoms. However, when the cancer grows, initial symptoms include:
  • Deep persistent dull ache and back in the upper abdomen from the tumor pushing against nerves, worsening at night, making it difficult to sleep (more tail tumor)
  • Jaundice develops due to compression of the tumor on the bile duct, located in the pancreatic head causing a poor removal of bile-containing yellow pigment, bilirubin, from the liver into the duodenum, and their consequent increase in the blood and skin (head tumor). Some patients reported itching before jaundice appears.
  • Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
  • Significant weight loss and always feeling very weak
  • Pass out smelly, pale excess fat in stool or diarrhoea
  • Some patients may develop diabetes
These symptoms of pancreatic cancer have numerous other causes, making it difficult to diagnose the disease before it is in an advanced stage. If the cancer spreads, or metastasizes, additional symptoms can present themselves in the newly affected area. Symptoms of metastasis ultimately depend on the location to which the cancer has spread.

In rare instances of endocrine cancer of the pancreas, there may be overproduction of insulin or hormones, leading to weak or dizzy feelings, chills, muscle spasms or diarrhoea.

Stages

Cancer treatment depends on the type of cancer, the stage of the development, age, health status, and additional personal characteristics. There is no single treatment for cancer and pancreatic cancer is usually only curable when found in its earliest stages.

The same cancer treatment to apply are surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

Prevention

+ It is advisable to quit smoking because cigarette use is thought to be a main factor in 20% of pancreatic cancers.

+ In general, physicians recommend standard preventive measures such as keeping a healthy weight, exercising, and increasing consumption of fruits, vegetables and whole grains while decreasing red meat intake. Healthy diet may have some protective effect on the pancreas.

-- Recent researchers found that curcumin, a compound in turmeric seemed to improve the function of beta-cells in the pancreas that release insulin and its anti-inflammatory effects protect these cells.

-- Evidence also suggests that increased garlic consumption may reduce pancreatic cancer risk. A study conducted in the San Francisco Bay area found that pancreatic cancer risk was 54% lower in people who ate larger amounts of garlic compared with those who ate lower amounts.

-- As a healthy diet always include some sugar, as it naturally occurs in many nutritious foods like fruit and milk, the key is to limit added sugars of all types, rather than eliminating all fructose or sucrose.

+ Check if drugs used are harmful to the gland. Use some form of acidophilus to compensate if drugs have to be depended upon.

+ Some studies suggest that certain vitamins can reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer.

- Chromium is important in maintaining stable blood sugar levels, usually high levels found in pancreatitis.

- B vitamins such as B12, B6 and folate are anti-stress and help in fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Also B vitamins may inhibit tumour growth and reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer.

- Choline can be used to emulsify fats as high levels are usually found in pancreatitis.

- Coenzyme 10 is a powerful antioxidant and oxygen carrier that helps to increase energy, support adrenal glands, process fats, remove toxins from the body and boost the immune system.

- Omega3 reduces inflammation and also lowers triglycerides.

It is very unfortunate that little progress is made on curing this most deadly disease in the last 20 years. The low incidence rate explains why insufficient expenditure cost is sunk into research study. Late detection when cancer has reached advance stage accounts for 95% of patients dying within one year of diagnosis. Even the remaining 5% can barely make it to the 5th year with the aid of radical surgery.

Given the depletion of enzymes in the pancreas, the metabolism process is impaired. VIVA GuocoGuard contains chromium that can assist by taking over part of this vital function. Diabetic patients will find the glucose level under better control.

VIVA Green Barley contains much well-preserved active enzymes that can neutralise free radicals especially in an acidic environment.

VIVA Guard has concentrated extracts from vegetables which after being ingested, the precursors will convert into the SOD enzyme (without being damaged by the gastric acid) to scavenge free radicals and repair damage.

VIVA Oxypower with its strong combination Coenzyme 10, vitamin A,C,E and trace of organic germanium helps to utilise oxygen quickly and effectively, encouraging the generation of energy and neutralises harmful free radicals, crucial to cells facing destruction.

DEATH sentence for CANCER?

CANCER is a dreadful word, evoking strong emotions of loss, despair, helplessness, shock and denial for most people. The strong fear is inevitable given that in most advanced societies, it is the leading cause of death with 1 in 3 afflicted with this devastating disease during their lifetime.

In a broad term, there are over 100 different types of cancer. As it is not a single disease, the origin can take on different characteristics.

Normal cell activities

Our body is made of trillion of cells, each of which is coated with its own inherited material or DNA. Under normal circumstances, the cells renew constantly at a controlled rate so as to grow and repair damaged tissues and repair dying cells. If a portion of a cell’s DNA is damaged beyond repair, the cell can become abnormal and normally our immune system eliminates it.

It starts off with our blood becoming acidic, acidic substances (usually toxins) are deposited into cells to allow the blood to remain slightly alkaline. This causes our cells to become more acidic and toxic, which results in a decrease of their oxygen levels, and harms their DNA and respiratory enzymes.  Overloading of toxins tax on vital organs in the body leading to chronic and degenerative diseases.

If left untreated, heavy accumulation of wastes poisons the cells and causes their premature die. These dead cells themselves turn into acids which may adapt in that environment to become abnormal cells. For those that evolved into malignant cells they can grow indefinitely and without order termed cancer.

To understand better, examine the four key types of genes responsible for the cell division process:

+ Oncogenes tell cells when to divide,

+ Tumor suppressor genes tell cells when not to divide,

+ Suicide genes control apoptosis and tell cells to commit suicide,

+ DNA-repair genes instruct cells to repair damaged DNA.

Process involved:

The uncontrolled growth often due to damage or mutations in the DNA, also causes damage to the genes involved in cell division (oncogenes). The ability of the tumor suppressor gene is impaired too. The new outgrown cells take the form of a mass of tissue called a growth or tumor.

A benign tumour is mild and does grow but do not spread, and thus not life-threatening. On the other hand, a malignant tumour grows uncontrollably, interfere with normal metabolic and organ functioning, and colonise other tissues in the body.

Causes:

1. Smoking is very often the main cause of cancer especially on the lungs and bladder.

There are 4,000 harmful chemicals (though in diluted form) in one stick of cigarette. Taking one puff is 600 times worse than inhaling exhaust fumes from vehicles. The cancerous effects of smoking are multiplied by alcohol consumption, where both are frequently used in combination. Regular exposure to secondhand smoke can increase a nonsmoker’s chance of getting cancer by 30%.

2. Wrong diets

a. Barbecued/deep fried foods

World Health Organisation has warned that eating fried fries and other fried starchy foods have been linked to cancer-causing substances in the human body. A toxic chemical derived from heating up starchy foods called acrylamide is released when natural amino acids hit high temperature to bring about the roasted brown color. This high level of carcinogenic formation is not found in boiled foods, which are cooked at lower temperatures. Note that acrylamide is also used to produce plastics and dyes and to purify drinking water.

b. Foods high in cholesterol and saturated fat eg. animal meat

c. Foods that contain preservatives eg. salt, nitrates, artificial flavoring

Medical experts believe the rapid rise in cancer incidence in recent times is primarily due to change of diet. Most cancers are linked to a high animal fat (eg. colon, breast) and high sugar intake coupled with low fibre. These foods induce cancer formation and mortality rates. Also out are french fries and potato chips as they are rich in salt, calories and fat.

d. Overnite/contaminated food eg. overnite rice, moulded bread

e. Inadequate intake of fibre ie. soluble and insoluble fibre

Keep to a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables (natural inhibitors) to obtain sufficient nutrition for daily body functioning. By taking 7 servings of fruits and vegetables daily for females and 9 servings for males, the blood flow can improve by about 60% as the acidity is the main culprit clogging the flow.

 3. Cancer can be due to certain genetic mutations or genetic default making one prone to develop cancer later in life.

4. Carcinogens are substances commonly found in our environment (eg. pesticides, dyes and chemicals) that are directly responsible for damaging DNA, promoting or aiding cancer. When our bodies are exposed to carcinogens, free radicals are formed that try to steal electrons from other molecules in the body. These free radicals damage cells, affecting their ability to function normally, and the result can be cancerous growths.

5. As we age, there is an increase in the number of possible cancer-causing mutations in our DNA as immunity drops gradually. For the majority, upon reaching 40, their organs and physiological functions deteriorate, in line with their immunities.

6. Some types of cancer are due to viral infections eg. Hepatitis B and C cause liver cancer and human papilloma (HPV) virus can trigger cervical cancer.

Stages of development

Cancer does not happen overnight and takes a cancer cell to mature in about 6 years to Stage 1. Following this, it progresses rapidly at different stage within a year. In some people it can lie dormant and turn cancerous only after 20 years. Hence this can be a rather lengthy process.

Stage 0 - no sign of spreading and highly curable (can be just polyps)

Cancer cells can start from as small as 0.2 micron and begin the journey round the whole body, without being spotted.

Stage 1 - a small cancer that is still isolated.

The gene involved has a change: cancer cells are activated and the gene that suppresses the formation of cancer has disappeared due to viral attack (eg. hepatitis B and C) or external factors like pollutants, radiation, stress, carcinogenic food or chemical agents.

Stage 2 & 3 – increase in size and starts spreading to lymph nodes but cannot be detected in other body parts yet. Also at this stage when cancer recurs after remission.

Stage 4 - cancer in advanced stage and has infected other parts.

When cancer spreads to the lymph node, it is called metastatic. A lymph node is a tiny, bean-shaped organ that filters the flow of lymph, the transparent fluid that is involved in normal functioning of our immune system. It is common for treated cancer in an organ to spread to another undiseased organ.

Broad 4 categories

1. Carcinomas - affecting the skin, mucous membranes, glands and the internal organs

2. Leukemias – affecting the blood-forming tissues

3. Sarcomas – affecting the muscles, connective tissues and bones

4. Lymphomas - affecting the lymphatic system

Signs and symptoms

Early stage of cancer development can still be treated. Hence, the chance for a cancer patient's recovery very much depend on the time the cancer was being diagnosed. Understanding the symptoms and signs of the cancer are useful in saving lives. Annual checkups and tests such as colonoscopies and PSA assays may reveal the underlying problems, but is better to spot early and undergo a test as and when the need arises. Always listen to your body and notice anything that is different, odd or unexplainable.

Some of those cancer symptoms mentioned are related to specific part of the body that may be invaded by cancer cells. Other symptoms that are not specific and cause nagging pain for a prolonged period should warrant attention too. Similiarly, do not ignore these symptoms till too late and miss the chance to be treated at an earlier date in its development.

*  Weakness and fatigue

Generalized fatigue and weakness, without explanation is a symptom of so many different kinds of cancer in combination with other symptoms. Pancreatic cancer patients are constantly feeling very weak.

*  Unexplained weight loss

Unexpected weight loss without conscious action is a concern as most people do not lose weight easily. A 10% lost can be accredited to the health being compromised. More often it is an early sign of colon and other digestive cancers.

*  Upset stomach/stomach-ache/fullness

If the discomfort in your stomach cannot be attributed to a digestive problem or that does not go away, request for an ultrasound. Finding a tumour in any part of the digestive system early can make all the difference in treatment.

+ A colon cancer patient starts off with unexplained stomach aches.

+ Those with pancreatic cancer describe a dull ache that feels like it is pressing inward. There may also be pain in the upper abdomen and back.

+ Many liver cancer patients experience an unexplained pain or ache in lower right side initially. This is followed by frequent stomach cramps and upsets on the lower left side resulting from an enlarged spleen and often mistaken for ulcers. Feeling full even after a small meal is another common sign.

+ Chronic "acid stomach" in the upper or middle abdomen that feels like gas or heartburn is the most common early sign of stomach cancer. It may be aggravated by eating even small amount of food and the pain can or cannot be relieved by antacids. Other symptoms include throwing out the food or blood, blacky stools, anemia, fatigue and unintended weight loss.

*  Difficulty swallowing/Chronic heartburn

+ Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) a condition in which stomach acid rises into the oesophagus, causing heartburn and an acidic taste in the throat that may develop into oesophageal cancer in advanced stage. This happens when there is frequently the need to clear your throat or that food is stuck in your chest due to a narrowing of the oesophagus that could mean the presence of a tumour. There can be vomiting of blood and constant spitting of mucus.

+ Most commonly associated with laryngeal (voice box) or throat cancer.

+ It can be one of the first signs of lung cancer.

*  Shortness of breath/Chronic cough/Chest pain

+ One of the first signs lung cancer patients recalls is the inability to catch their breath.

+ Shortness of breath, chest pain and spitting blood are signs of testicular cancer spreading to the lungs.

+ If a cough persists or disappears and returns in a repeating cycle, it can develop into several types of cancer, including leukaemia and lung tumors. Some lung cancer patients report chest pain that extends up into the shoulder or down the arm.

*  Swelling of facial features

+ Some lung cancer patients report puffiness, swelling or redness in the face because the small cell lung tumours commonly block blood vessels in the chest, preventing blood from flowing freely from the head and face.

+ It can also be a sign of liver cancer, affecting your appetite and the ability of your body to eliminate waste.

*  Jaundice

Jaundice is most visibly observed by yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes and darker-than-normal urine that is not the result of dehydration. Also, clay-coloured stools and itching due to the bile salts in the bloodstream.

Some pancreatic cancer patients reported itching before jaundice appears.

*  Frequent fevers/infections

Leukemia patients suffer from fever, aches and flu-like symptoms over an extended period of time. This is a cancer of the blood cells where abnormal white blood cells produced crowd out healthy white cells, sapping the body's infection-fighting capabilities. Other accompanying signs and symptoms- profuse sweating, slow healing cuts, bone and joint pain, enlarged liver or spleen.

*  Swollen lymph nodes/lumps on the neck, underarm or groin

+ A lump or enlarged lymph in the neck or underarm is sometimes a sign of thyroid, head or throat cancer.

+ Enlarged lymph nodes indicate changes in the lymphatic system, which can be an early sign of cancer. It can be a painless lump on the neck, underarm or groin. Another sign of leukemia where red blood cells and platelets are being crowded out, thus impairing the blood's ability to carry oxygen and clot. This can result in bleeding gums and easy bruising in odd places, like fingers and hands.

*  Rectal bleeding/Bloody stool/Bowel problems

+ Frequent constipation and diarrhoea are signs of a faulty bowel, ready to develop into colon cancer. Other signs and symptoms are bleeding, persistent abdominal pain or bloating, much weight loss or fatigue.

+ One of the early signs of pancreatic cancer is fatty stools, as recognized by frequent large stools that are paler than normal and smelly due to poor digestion.

*  Difficulty urinating/burning sensation/blood in urine

+ The most common early sign of prostate cancer is a feeling of not being able to empty the bladder, either no control over the urine flow or a stream that is weaker than normal. This occurs when the prostate grows bigger and blocks the flow of urine and further causes inflammation or infection in the prostate. There can be pain radiating to the hips and upper thighs with swelling in the legs. In serious cases, blood in the urine can be a pink, dark red or smoky brown colour, whilst blood in the semen is pinkish.

+ Blood in the urine can also be a warning sign for bladder cancer. Other symptoms can be pain and burning sensation, increased frequency of urination and difficulty urinating.

+ A burning sensation can indicate a urinary tract infection or sexually transmitted disease, combined with the urge to pee more often, particularly at night.

+ For women, heavy bleeding between menstrual periods, bleeding after intercourse or painful menstrual periods are signs of cervical cancer.

*  Erection problems/Testicular swelling/lump

+ As prostate cancer progresses, another very common sign is difficulty getting or sustaining an erection.

+ Men with testicular cancer experience a heavy aching feeling in the lower parts like belly, abdomen, scrotum or testicles. However, any lump in an enlarged or swollen testicle can be difficult to spot because it is not visible and almost painless. At most, some men report feeling discomfort from the enlargement. Other symptoms include blood in the semen and enlargement of the breast.

*  Scaly/painful nipple or chest, nipple discharge

Not only women, men also get breast cancer which is a benign lump in the breast area and can cause chest pain if spreads. Other signs include patches of red, scaly or dimple skin or changes to the nipple such as turning inward or leaking fluid.

*  Sore/skin lump that doe not heal

Watch out for small waxy lumps or dry scaly patches that become crusty or bleeds easily. They can be different types of skin cancer -melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

*  Changes in nails

Unexplained changes to the fingernails can be a sign of several types of cancer.

- A brown or black streak or dot under the nail can indicate skin cancer.

- An enlargement of the ends of the fingers, with nails that curve down over the tips, can be a sign of lung cancer.

- Pale or white nails can be an indication that your liver is not functioning properly, can be a sign of liver cancer.

Common medical treatments:

Some types of cancer are curable even if they are not detected at the earliest stage eg. testicular cancer, childhood acute leukemia, Hodgkin's disease and adult acute leukemia.

Many other types cannot be cured as the chance of relapse is high and subsequent treatment is required eg. multiple myeloma, low-grade leukemia, chronic leukemia.

* Surgery – the tumor and some of the surrounding tissues that may contain invading cells are removed.

* Chemotherapy - Medicine is used to destroy cancer cells by interfering with their ability to grow and multiply. Different types of medicine are used for different cancers. They can be orally administered or injected into the blood vessels. As this treatment destroys healthy cells as well, do expect side effects such as hair loss, nausea, vomitting and prone to infections.

* Radiotherapy - Radiation used to kill cancer cells can be high-dose X-rays which are directed at the tumor or some radioactive material that is surgically implanted into the tumor. This is commonly applied before surgery to reduce the size of the tumor or after the surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells in that area. Side effects from this treatment include tiredness and skin rashes.

Conclusion

CANCER when detected early, is CURABLE NOT DEADLY!! Recognise the above signs and symptoms - and seek early treatment. Even for those who are inflicted with the disease, coping well is the best advice rather than accepting death as the only way out. Improving lifestyle is a means to an improved quality of life.

Eliminate unhealthy lifestyle can prevent cancer from occurring by as much as 60-70% for most individuals and can even suppress gene expression for those inherited with the cancer genes. Obesity has been linked to cancer of the colon, gallbladder, cervical, uterine and breast cancer.

On the other hand, 20% of all cancer deaths are associated with malnutrition and weight loss. Inflammation is how the immune system responds to infection or irritation, and that requires lots of energy to heal. The body has to expend more calories in so doing, curb the appetite, reduce muscle mass and results in weight loss.

At this trying moment, cancer patients and their family members become over-conscious of eating certain foods, leading to unbalanced diet. Protein is deprived if animal meat is not fed. Better substitutes like fish, eggs, nuts, beans and soya products should quickly be included. Many Chinese families like feeding the cancer patients with merely porridge and soup, which is water with low nutritional value that does not help to improve the immunity.

Loading up good protein, vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, minerals are essential for natural recovery or treatment. Radiotherapy is tough on a weakened body as it depresses the immune system further that may lead to the treatment being reduced or stopped. Hence if you have cancer, it is imperative to keep up with a healthy diet.

Although cancer is easier to treat at an earlier stage, advanced cancer should also be looked into quickly as it advances rapidly and can cause massive damage. It is like housing terrorists in the body and do expect nasty surprised attacks anytime and anywhere. Remain vigilant for breakups and stay healthy at all times.

VIVA corner

+ VIVA Germanium is an organic yeast germanium without toxicity patented in 1995. Clinical studies have demonstrated its ability to stimulate the immune system to fight against cancer and increase the body’s resistance towards diseases. Note that not all organic germanium are safe for human consumption as there are documented cases of kidney failure.

+ VIVA Vivashield with 4 antioxidants combined – Vitamin A, C, E and Selenium, neutralize free radicals which damage cellular DNA of healthy cells. The synergistic effect has demonstrated a reduction in the risk of fatal cancers by as much as 40%.

+  VIVA Selguard (organic yeast selenium) was featured in Anti-cancer Research May 2000 and presented at the 1999 Annual Convention of the American Association of Cancer Research (ACCR) to have chemotherapeutic effects and the ability to commit apoptosis or promote cellular death of rogue cells.
